2020 McLaren 765LT adds length to 'Longtail' lineup
McLaren endows the 765LT with 765 PS and 800 Nm of torque
Since McLaren established themselves as the kings of Le Mans in the ’90s, the lengthened ‘longtail’ F1 GTR version of the McLaren F1 has since been synonymous with staggering race-bred performance in the consciousness of all supercar enthusiasts.
Capitalizing on this signature trait, McLaren has since been applying this layout for throughout their lineup with special limited-run versions. With the 720S being around for a while only time could tell when the next ‘LT’ would come out... and today that day has come.

Enter the McLaren 765LT, an aptly named 765 PS, 800 Nm torqued weapon that serves as the latest member of the Longtail family. Drawing ever-closer to the 800 PS mark for a production car, the 765LT uses the familiar 4.0L twin-turbo V8 powerplant in the 720S – though we’re sure there’s plenty more going on underneath. Match that with 80 kg less than the 720S, and you’re already dealing with a much higher power-to-weight ratio.

Speaking of weight reduction, you will find that the 765LT hits its 1,339 kg weight by doing away with the nuances of daily driving – namely no air conditioning nor radio has been fitted; Though McLaren says these items could be fitted at no extra cost. Carbon fiber is pretty much everywhere for this car, with the McLaren Composites Technology Center supplying the active rear wing, front floor, and rear bumper for the 765LT.
This is the first time the center was employed to use their products for a McLaren road car. Apart from these, a titanium exhaust, Formula One-grade transmission components, and thinner glass all contribute to further lessening of weight.

The whole aero package of the 765LT consists of carbon fiber as well, and that prominent ‘Longtail’ wing acts as active aero and is much more pronounced when raised compared to McLaren’s other production models. Other changes include the transmission, now fitted with F1 grade components, supposedly allowing the 765LT to accelerate 15% faster than with the transmission found in the 720S. And as is tradition with LT models, the 765LT will only be made in a total of 765 pieces worldwide.
